Irregular Verb Conjugation of sprechen

The irregular verb ‘sprechen’ = to speak in English. As per the definition of the Duden, it is used to form or utter speech sounds and words, but also in the sense to speak in a certain way. It is commonly used with the following prepositions:

to speak about = sprechen über

to speak of = sprechen von

to speak with = spechen mit

Examples:

A) He speaks German and English. = Er spricht deutsch und englisch.

B) We speak about the history of Germany. = Wir spechen über Deutschlands Geschichte.

C) Lisa speaks with confidence. = Lisa spricht mit Selbstbewusstsein.

Ronny speaks with his teacher. = Ronny spricht mit seinem Lehrer.

There are also a few interesting expressions that use this verb:

A) Her comment speaks volumes. = Ihr Kommentar spricht Bände.

B) The judge declares him guilty. = Der Richter spricht ihn schuldig.

C) He is lucky to be alive. = Er kann von Glück sprechen, am Leben zu sein.
